THE RE-EDUCATION BY C. HARVEY
Genration of Dreamers and Baltimore's Gifted Founder C. Harvey spoke with Angela Carroll, an arts & culture writer with Bmore Art, about her inspiration behind her first solo exhibition "The Re-Education".
"The Re-Education" will be on exhibition at School 33 Art Center until 1/21/2017 and is curated by Melissa Webb
Below are a few excerpts and pictures. The full feature can be read at HERE
"One of the first, and perhaps most alarming installations you see when entering the exhibit is “Attention Deficit.” A re-purposed school desk is likened to an electric chair and installed in the center of the space. An engineering textbook rests open on the desk. The imprint of a handgun has been carved out of the book. The electric chair faces a chalkboard which states:
“THIS IS NOT FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT THIS IS FOR MY ATONEMENT” - C. Harvey
I wondered aloud what Harvey felt she needed to atone for. She responded, “When I was in the basement I had a lot of time to think. I didn’t think I was a great human being. Most of us are not as great as we can be. I had a real talk with god. I struggled with pills. I decided eventually that I was going to start valuing my life and surrender myself to my creator and my creations.” - Angela Carroll
